About

Hello! I'm Kate Frantz, Founder and Designer at Statement Species. My artwork and surface pattern design collections are rooted in science, nature, and microscopic imagery. These are available for licensing across a variety of retail and health science applications. If interested, please check out my design portfolio.
With a Master of Public Health and training in surface pattern design, I bridge scientific insight and visual storytelling to create collections designed for practical application in retail and institutional settings. I have worked in health education, including roles with the CDC Office on Smoking and Health, county government, tobacco cessation, and rare disease awareness campaigns.
I'm building this small business with love from Michigan. Thank you for being here and supporting this dream!
Microscopic Elements
I own an actual microscope and use what I see as inspiration for my designs.
Fun fact: Taking photos of what you see under a microscope is called Photomicrography.

Grounded in Research. Not Generated by AI.
My designs are based on real species, studied through thoughtful research, not generated by AI. While I don’t always replicate exact scale (I'm not printing field guides 🤓), I aim to keep the species and its key traits recognizable.

Repeating Patterns
I often use repeating surface pattern designs.
Surface Design: Just as it sounds, designs appearing on any product's surface.
Repeat Patterns: Think wallpaper or a bolt of fabric. The designs repeat over and over again without end, seamlessly.
What this means is that most of my designs are not one-off graphics or taglines plopped on a tee. They’re intentional, artfully crafted prints.

Thanks for being here!
