HELLO! I'M KATE FRANTZ

With a Master of Public Health and training in surface pattern design, I bridge scientific insight and visual storytelling to create collections designed for practical application in retail and institutional settings.

I have worked in health education, including roles with the CDC Office on Smoking and Health, county government, tobacco cessation, and rare disease awareness campaigns. I also have training in surface pattern design and maintain a creative practice centered on microscopy, nature, and visual exploration.

My Design Process

MICROSCOPIC WINGS

I looked at a butterfly wing under a microscope and created a kaleidoscope-like pattern colored to match the Blue Morpho, Tiger Swallowtail, Monarch, and Marbled White Butterflies.

BUTTERFLY SPECIMEN

The design features black-and-white silhouettes of real butterflies and moths, crafted from actual photos. Stripped of color, their natural geometry comes into sharp focus like delicate etchings or stamps from the natural world. Although, colored versions are also available by request.

BUTTERFLY MARKINGS

The Butterfly Spots pattern echoes the natural markings found near the edges of butterfly wings. These spots serve a purpose: they draw predator attacks away from vital organs, helping the butterfly survive.

what is art licensing?

Art licensing is a way for you to use my artwork and surface pattern designs on your products through a usage agreement. The agreement grants you either exclusive or non-exclusive rights to use my art on a specified product type, industry and/or location. This can be achieved through royalties, one-time, or ongoing payments. It's a flexible way for you to gain access to high quality artwork without having to commission or buy it outright!

I can even modify the colors, scale, and size of the artwork to meet your unique retail goals.
